Melanie Carter

Eastern Hellbender Private Lands Biologist - Virginia

Melanie Carter is a Professional Engineer with over 15 years experience in aquatic habitat restoration, and stormwater and agriculture best management practices. She joined CMI in January 2019 as a Private Lands Engineer Biologist focusing on the Southeastern Hellbender Conservation Initiative, a collaboration with Defenders of Wildlife and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service Working Lands for Wildlife Program. Prior to CMI, she worked with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program for almost 9 years assisting private landowners in implementing habitat restoration that targeted threatened and endangered freshwater mussels and fish in Southwest Virginia and West Virginia. She has also worked in the environmental consulting and land development industry.
