David Hutto grew up in the Carolina flatwoods and bottomland hardwood forests of South Carolina, chasing snakes, turtles, and frogs. He earned his Bachelor of Science (2016) and Master of Science (2018) from Clemson University, both in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology. As a graduate student he studied the potential for wetlands in urban open spaces to support anuran (frogs and toads) populations in urban environments. After spending time surveying for spotted turtle populations in the lowcountry of South Carolina as part of a range-wide monitoring program, David moved to Knoxville, TN with his wife, Mollye.

Before joining the CMI David worked as a herpetology keeper at Zoo Knoxville in their Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Campus. David is ecstatic to work with landowners to improve water quality in our East Tennessee watersheds. Restoring and maintaining healthy streams benefits the landowner, hellbenders, and other wildlife that depend on these diverse aquatic environments
